Flourish Conf!
April 10, 2007
Sat. April 7th was the Flourish Confrence at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) featuring F/OSS.
Needless to say, I had a blast. I saw most of the Chicago Ubuntu Loco there (Matt, Nixternal, RJ, Jim C., Chad Sutton, jmmri (sp?) ) and many other people whose names I forget. John Quigley was there but I managed to successfully avoid him and the rest of the Chi-glug for the most part. Just kidding.
Highlights:
Being mobbed by the UIC lug for Ubuntu cds. We passed out over 100 cds, easily that day.
GPLv3 talk with Peter Brown.
Random talk about Stallman being a characther and a half.
Being a geek in general.
My favorite moment was a touching speech Nixternal (Rich Johnson) gave about “Free” software and the community in general. He also touched upon easy use, where this gem came in.
Nix: “You know I’ had my daughter using Slackware when she was five”.
Random Smartass in the back: “I’m pretty sure that falls under child abuse”.
All in all, I had a blast and I learned a ton.

The best part of the conference was when Tim and I got into an elevator to hear two girls talk about their D&D campaign. Maybe (hopefully) the landscape of nerdom is changing.
