What can be used instead of publisher?

I am specifically trying to go from .pub files to .pdf

Saving as rich text doesn’t work, the images are lost in the text. Open office can save from text to pdf but how does the file get from .pub to open office in the first place. The office has one imac mini, and 2 windows computers. The program does not have to be software libre, just free as in beer. Perhaps a small standalone program, without too much fluff, but anything will work.

Thanks!

Linux to the rescue

Today at work, I was asked to fix an imac mini which was running slow.  Three month old computer running slow is a challenge I can take.

First order of business.

Crash the damn thing. Just crash it. 5 Safari windows, opening itunes, and garageband and idvd and who knows what else. Everything opened fine… just real slow. So if the RAM and HD aren’t doing it.

Second Order of Business.

Terminal:

psaux

Whoa something is  takin up all the  resources!

Third.

Terminal:

top

Looks like its time to close quicktime, idvd and garageband.

Fourth.

Sit back and impress the boss.

And this is why running Linux and the occasional CLI magic is unbeatable.

I’m stuck in a room full of Windows computers.

My goal is to draw a red line through this picture.  Icanhascheezburger ftw.

I was hoping that someone would be able to help me opt out of the Microsoft Developers Network entirely. While I appreciate the administration of my school’s attempts to bring free as in cost software to the general body, I feel that the limitations of the end license user agreement (EULA), and the proprietary nature of the software to be of the highest form of restriction on end users. The egregious harm done to innovation, veiled behind a limited ‘developers network’, and presented as ‘free’ without context as allowed by the vague shadiness of definition which the English language allows, is simply reprehensible.

In fact, a quick search of my name in the popular search website ‘google.com’ will reveal my web log (blog) which has several postings AGAINST MSDN and the partnerships it provides.

My request is very simple. I want to be barred from entering the MSDN and let it be known that I prefer software which is both open and free, using GPL similar licenses to create an open culture, as opposed to a permission culture. I refuse to be aligned with Microsoft or any Microsoft products, in any capacity, and hope that in the future, policy decisions will favor a GNU, Mozilla, BSD or other similar license for partnerships.
