June 30, 2008

Remember now:

ctrl+alt+backspace will restart X

ctrl +shift + backspace will clear your private firefox data.

don’t mistake the two, it could result in a widespread emberassment.

I’m kinda sick of friends playing games by hitting CTRL+ALT+Backspace on my machine while it’s locked (with documents still open behind) and I’m having a pause. Any way to “fix” this?

You can disable Ctrl+Alt+Backspace by adding the following to your /etc/X11/sources.list:

    Section “ServerFlags”
    Option “DontZap” “yes”
    EndSection

ctrl+alt+backspace will kill X, it’s daemon work to run it again after you kill it

  4. Whose bright idea at Mozilla was to define that combo for that function anyway?

(Then again, I can’t get enough of the ever-moving key combo for “Page Info”… or the “Download manager”… Those are right brilliant too)

Don’t you mean ctrl+shift+delete for clearing Firefox data? :)

  6. Ctrl+Shift+Delete will also clear your private Firefox data. Less opportunity for mistakes that way.

I sometimes used to switch to a different workspace with Ctrl+Alt+Right, and then try to press Backspace in the X-Chat entry field without having quite released the Ctrl and Alt yet. Bad idea. :-)

I’ve done this before. Seems more like silly X.org than silly you.
