So I was having troubles with my Kubuntu wireless, messing around with KNetworkManager and learning through the tried and true method of shooting myself in the foot. note: there are only two feet to get shot it, so learning comes quickly.

Eventually I came across the need to revert my setting to the original setting which had came with my application when I had first downloaded it. Here is what I did:

cd /home/user/.kde/share/config

I removed a file called: knetworkmanagerrc

Then i did the following and it ran perfect*:

sudo apt-get install knetworkmanager

-Eddie M.

*knetworkmanager was not installed at the time because I was messing around with various other network managers at the time, trying to learn how to connect using that, via CLI, etc. after re installing the knetworkmanager application, everything went smoothly.

What can be used instead of publisher?

I am specifically trying to go from .pub files to .pdf

Saving as rich text doesn’t work, the images are lost in the text. Open office can save from text to pdf but how does the file get from .pub to open office in the first place. The office has one imac mini, and 2 windows computers. The program does not have to be software libre, just free as in beer. Perhaps a small standalone program, without too much fluff, but anything will work.

Thanks!

passwords

July 24, 2007

I’ve been thinking alot about passwords, password strength, hackablity etc. lately. I have logins for a seizable number of sites which I use on a constant basis, swapping between a limited number of passwords. My question is this: What is a good rule of thumb for picking passwords/remembering passwords etc.? I realize that my own system is a bad one, and has the potential for a big disaster. Yahoo Mail (which I, thankfully, haven’t used in years) used to recommend mother’s maiden name or favorite stuff animal as a password. I’m trying to move beyond that and go into something more secure.Yes I realize that mixing numbers and letters is a good idea.

Help?
